Kidd's Chronicle
Kimyal New Testament Translation Project
April 2008
West Papua, Indonesia
First of all I want to thank you all so much for all your prayers, not just for
this last trip, but for all the years of faithful prayers that have been brought
before the throne on behalf of the Kimyal people and the translation of their New Testament
As has been said before, this has not been a sprint but a long distance endurance race.
We are coming to the end but there is still so much to do! Don't let up now, this may
be one of the most critical points of the whole project! It is a well known fact
that the period just before the actual printing of the scriptures, the spiritual
warfare becomes more intense. The enemy desires to discourage and hinder the printing
of that Bible.
I would like to share a little about my last trip and some prayer requests so
you can be very specific in your prayers for us.
My month in West Papua was a month of highs and lows. Finishing the
translation of Revelation went very smoothly and a lot more quickly than I
had expected. This was a tremendous blessing because it actually gave me three free
days. During these days I was able tohave some personalized time wiht a fellow
translator who gave me some instruction on the use of the Paratext program. This program
is used for the editing and formatting of the final draft.
God is so good to prepare us for the next step that is before us!
The checking of Hebrews and Revelation with Dr. Lourens DeVries was also a
pleasure and encouragement. The day we finished the checking I was filled with worship
and praise to God for accomplishing through us what He had promised
me way back in 1995. He said He would do it and there we were finishing the last book of
the New Testament!!
The low point happened right after that when I had to confront a situation involving
the mishandling of finances with one of the members of our team. I had a very
short period of time to work through the issues and as a matter of fact we
are still working through the complexity of the situation.
As I mentioned at the start, the enemy is always at work trying to
hinder the work of God. Even though this has been very heavy on my heart I am
confident that the Lord will work it all out in a way that will bring Him glory.
This is where your prayers are such an encouragement to me.
I realize that I am not alone in this. The scriptures exhort us to bear
one another's burdens and that is why I am sharing this with you. Please pray
for true conviction and repentance. Pray that Orin and I will have the wisdom, discernment
and grace to deal with this brother in the Lord.
The other major prayer request is for the editing process that we are now in the
middle of.
In a nutshell this is the process of checking every single word and punctuation mark
in the New Testament to make sure it is correct - correct in meaning, spelling, placement
etc.
This is complicated by the fact that because of the different translators involved
and the natural evolving of the language, there are sometimes several
spellings for many of the words. We have also changed the way we spell
words several times and this is reflected in the different books that were printed.
When we print the Kimyal New Testament it will become the official spelling of the language
so this is why it is so importnat to get it as correct as possible. We also
have to check the consistency of hundreds of key terms, check for omissions
and in effect check every jot and tittle! Please be in prayer for us as we
work through this tedious process. The work of the Holy Spirit in this
process is just as important as it was in the actual translation. Pray for the protection,
accuracy and completion of this final phase.
Without you we would not be this close to handing the Kimyal people their New Testament!
Rejoice with us and continue praying!
In Christ,
Rosa Kidd
