Gordon's parents were ASSU missionaries (present day AMF) in Minnesota. Gordon attended Northwestern College and became an AMF missionary first in Minnesota, and then transferred to Oregon. Ruth was a nurse and served as a camp nurse where Gordon was serving. They married in 1969 and have five grown children. One of their sons is Jeff Moritz, who with his wife Megan, is also involved with camp ministry with AMF. Besides running three camps every summer, Gordon and Ruth serve all of Linn, Benton, and Lane counties, plus half of Lincoln, Coos, and Douglas. They do church planting, encourage small AMF churches, lead Bible studies, and are involved with release time Bible clubs.
